Part 1: What I Learned This Week In My SHA Sexuality Educator Certification Program!

If you haven’t been following my journey, let me give you a quick debriefing! I'm an artist looking to get my Sexuality Educator Certification. I want to combine my passion for the arts and sexual wellness to create educational content and make accurate information more readily accessible. I am documenting what I learned with SHA to become certified in their program. Check out my last few articles to get the full scoop on what I’ve been up to.

  • In my last update, I mentioned that I had completed the first half of Module 1; here is some of what I learned!

    • Anatomy basics

    • Breaking down myths and misconceptions

    • Sex positivity

I have been wowed by the amount I learned in the first module. The subjects I have read about in each unit are essential to developing my knowledge, personal growth, and confidence.

My sex educator certification program at Sexual Health Alliance: Module 1, Part 2

As I entered the second half of this module I was excited. I was eager to continue my education and discover everything the module had to offer. This portion of the module focuses on more detailed topics, such as research studies, their long-term relevance, and practical applications in everyday life. It also builds upon the concepts we learned in the first half, delving into history and more applicable discussions of anatomy.

Masturbation frequency, benefits, concerns

There are so many misconceptions about masturbation. Do you do it too much or too little? Are you doing it right or wrong? Do you even have the equipment to do it? These units will answer all of your questions and concerns! Anatomy eases into the subjects of how-to and further leads us to the moral discussions of it all. You will learn that most practices are normal and healthy and the discourse on why people feel some activities are unhealthy.

  • Some Things I Learned

    • masturbation methods for the penis and vagina

    • the anatomical process and cycle of arousal/ the sexual response

    • trans masc pleasure

Sexual Health History

Although history was not my favorite subject in school, this section kept my attention! The subject covered various areas, from the importance of research and how it changed over time to current practices and challenges. My favorite subject in this unit was researchers' challenges in learning about sexual wellness and conducting studies. This unit will make history fun for anyone in the sexual wellness field!

  • Some things I learned

    • Importance of research and the difficulties in researching sexuality

    • Setting boundaries as a therapist

    • The evolution of sex therapies and further breaking myths of outdated beliefs

Bonus Content for sexual health professionals

Once you complete the material, you will see a unit mainly containing bonus content! Although it's not required, I recommend taking advantage of this unit. It contains many book recommendations and further readings to elaborate on the subjects discussed in the module. I learned much from the bonus content and will treat myself to recommended books!

  • Some Things I Learned

    • There are many excellent books to learn about subjects that interest you further.

    • Readings on advice in therapy assessments and treatments

    • Further Leactures to listen to

My sex educator certification program at Sexual Health Alliance: What Comes Next

Module 1 was a whirlwind of information, and I can't wait to see what comes next. Module 2, Relationships Deserve Pleasure, covers topics like sexual mindfulness, sexual limitations, and religious beliefs' effects on sexuality. So far, I have been wowed by the amount I learned in the first module. The subjects I have read about in each unit are essential to developing my knowledge, personal growth, and confidence. For me, educating myself on sexual wellness has always been a focus point for empowering myself as a woman. If I can take what I have learned and educate the people in my life and the world around me, I've made a real difference for everyone in the community!
