Prague Study Abroad Program: April 29th - May 3rd, 2025

WHAT TO EXPECT?

We’re excited to bring our popular Study Abroad program to Prague! Known for its rich history and cultural charm, Prague offers a unique setting for exploring sexuality education and openness. The Sexual Health Alliance’s Study Abroad program promises a cutting-edge, transformative, and enjoyable learning experience.

Led by Dr. Justin Lehmiller, a Harvard Award-winning educator, this advanced program provides an immersive experience with educational excursions and cultural insights in one of Europe’s most enchanting cities.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Sex work has been legal in the Czech Republic for decades, which has made it one of Europe’s most popular destinations for sex tourism. In fact, the sex trade in this country is estimated to be worth nearly one-quarter of a billion dollars per year. The Czech Republic is considered one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries in Europe, with same-sex domestic partnerships legal since 2006 and comprehensive non-discrimination laws passed in 2009; however, same-sex marriage does not currently exist in the country, despite a large majority of citizens supporting it. The Czech Republic is one of the largest producers of gay pornography worldwide, and Prague is home to the only museum on the globe focused exclusively on sex machines and technology.

  • This course offers students the opportunity to perform a comparative analysis of sexual attitudes and behaviors in Prague and the United States. Prague provides a fascinating cultural contrast with its progressive approach to LGBTQ+ issues, including early recognition of same-sex domestic partnerships, and sex work. We will explore the Czech model of sexuality in depth and consider what we can learn from it. Students will also learn about LGBTQ issues in Prague and have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Czech culture to enhance their cultural sensitivity and global perspective.

  • Course fee is $1597 (plus fees) per student for registration.

    • It includes:
All lectures/workshops with Dr. Justin Lehmiller

    • All events with guest speakers

    • All cultural excursions and adventures

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation, hotel accommodations, and meals. Prague’s excellent public transport allows for budget-friendly accommodations outside the city center. We will offer options for students to share rooms to further cut costs.

Book your flights and hotel to arrive in Prague by early-afternoon on April 29th, with activities starting at 4:00 PM. Plan to depart on May 3rd or later. The group typically uses the last day to visit a park, a club or anything else they have had their eye on throughout the program.

Feel free to extend your stay; we’ll provide a list of optional activities to explore the city. Note that all fees are non-refundable but can be transferred between SHA students, programs, and events. Some activities may vary based on availability.

  • We’ll stay in the city center of Prague to be close to most activities. We will meet at a central hotel most days, and many students may choose to stay there as well. We'll send the hotel's details and address after you reserve your spot. You are free to book accommodations anywhere you prefer—our suggestions are simply for convenience and our meeting point.

We will also offer the option for students to pair up and share rooms to help reduce costs as the program date approaches.

  • Your Study Abroad ticket includes the Sexceptional Weekend: Sexuality Around the World with Justin Lehmiller and Expert Guest lecturers. We highly recommend you to attend live online. If you can not, please let us know and plan to watch the recording later as this will be part of your course CEs. We highly encourage all study abroad students to be there. (Zoom links will be sent after you register).

  • There are no pre-requisites required for the course. We welcome all students regardless of profession or courses completed. We often have students from all over the world including but not limited to: Sex nerds or enthusiasts, sex therapists or coaches, sexual health practitioners or educators, researchers, academic professors, medical doctors, certified and non-certified students and more! You do not need to be a SHA student or member to attend! But, we're sure you will be forever a SHA fan at the end of the program! You'll also most likely be Justin's new bff! ;)

  • Yes! Many of our students will attend more than one program. Each program offers different experiences, insights and perspectives. Some will even travel together between cities if the dates line up. Come to all of them!
