Do you want a Sexuality Educator Certification? I sure do!! There are many reasons to want a certification and many things to do with your certification! Maybe you're a therapist and you want to be better prepared to help your clients. Maybe you want to be a teacher and be ready to deliver an accurate sex education. Or maybe you're just like me and you’re an artist looking to spice things up with some educational content online.
Why Choose Sexual Health Alliance for Sexuality Educator Certification?
I am about to start a journey in getting a Sexuality Educator Certification! For most of my life I have had a passion for education and human sexuality! This is the perfect opportunity to learn so much more and broaden my career opportunities. As an animator, my career path is very different from the average sex educator. I don't have any degrees or work experience in therapy, counseling, or teaching. Despite my differing background, my love for sex education and the diverse world within it drives me to seek out this certification.
I found SHA to be the perfect place to receive your Sexuality Educator Certification. Not only do you receive your certification, but you also gain access to an amazing community of researchers, educators, and professionals! With SHA you have access to many educational resources, research papers, and conferences! All of these things will help you build not only knowledge but also skill sets.
The program is also 100% online which is super important to me so I can work towards my Sexuality Educator Certification from home or on the go while at work. Although I love being able to work from home, I still need to socialize. Well, no worries there! Part of the program is to attend conferences (available both online and in person) which gives the opportunity to meet new people as well as learn new skills. As an artist, it's safe to say that I don't have much in the way of money. However, SHA provides different payment plans to help make it more affordable for the average person.
What Will I do With My Sexuality Educator Certification From SHA
For many Therapists and Counselors, a SHA certification is a fantastic certification to have. You can learn about all sorts of subject matters that your clients may come to you seeking help on. But my background of education is within animation and the arts. So you might be wondering what the heck am I gonna do with a Sexuality Educator Certification?
Well, I plan to combine the knowledge of my degree and the certification and create educational content! My own sex education was pitiful and relied heavily on educating myself with online content. Free online educational continent is extremely important to help spread information to those who don't have access to it in schools or at home, such as myself. Many of the sex education content online are demonetized, restricted, or flat-out removed. The balance between a healthy education and safe censorship is a difficult balance to keep online. My personal goal is to help add to the educational content that is providing knowledge to those like myself out in the world. Education sparks passion and confidence!
My Experience With Sex Education
I come from a small town with a small public high school shared by several neighboring towns. With small-town schools comes limited education, especially when related to sex education. The education in this area was minimal and fear-based. Why would I need to know anything about sex and the body if I stay abstinent? Why would I need to know about STIs or contraception if I'm expected to be abstinent? Class consisted of watching the Pregnancy Pact movie three times (yes three times, I'm not exaggerating) and reading the outdated health textbooks in silence. This kind of sex education perpetuated not only fear of sex and pregnancy but also shame. Shame of being a woman, shame of being queer, shame of having or not having sex, shame of my body and my interest, so much shame and fear.
Suddenly I found myself with issues I knew I had to sort out and I wanted to tackle them head-on myself. I sought to fight my fear by understanding what scared me. One of the things that scared me was not knowing. Like any teenager in the 2010s, I went to YouTube. There I found channels like Sexplanations and Watts the Safeword. From there I started reading articles and googling any strange topic I had never heard of. There was a whole world of Edutainment being opened to my eyes.
As I moved into adulthood I started to realize that educating myself had other effects I hadn't anticipated. Not only did I feel less shame towards myself but less judgment towards others. I felt more confident in my body and in who I am as a person. Seeking out a sex education helped form a foundation for myself to stand upon when going out into the world to discover who I am as a person. That is something priceless and powerful. It is this experience that fostered my passion for sex education! This passion is exactly what has led me to want to get my Sexuality Educator Certification to help teach those who need it and be the educator I wish I had.
