Talking with a Certified Sex Therapist about Menopause

Talking with a Certified Sex Therapist about Menopause

Menopause often brings changes to sexual functioning, but it also offers an opportunity to redefine intimacy and enhance satisfaction. In a recent discussion, Dr. Rachel Zar highlights the importance of addressing desire discrepancies in relationships and rewriting outdated sexual scripts for greater authenticity and pleasure. By broadening the definition of sex beyond intercourse and embracing new approaches to intimacy, individuals can discover fulfilling sexual experiences at any age. Research even suggests that sex can improve as we grow older, and with the support of a skilled sex therapist, navigating these transitions becomes an empowering journey.

Dr. Rachel Zar will be presenting at the online event, “This Girl is on Fire: Menopause Online Sexceptional Weekend”. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist. She sees individuals and couples and provides clinical supervision at Avid Intimacy, a private group therapy practice in Chicago. Dr. Zar specializes in working with those experiencing sexual functioning issues including painful sex, difficulty with or inability to orgasm, or low or diminished libido. She worked for many years at the Center for Sexual Medicine and the Center for Menopause, gynecologic subspecialty groups that are part of Northwestern Medicine.
