Effective agreement-making and pleasure planning are essential elements of both BDSM play and satisfying vanilla sex. While numerous checklists and scripts exist for kink negotiation, many individuals still struggle to self-advocate and collaborate in designing their experiences due to factors such as lack of practice, assumptions about roles, poor education, or internalized stressors. This challenge extends to therapists, who often learn about consent and negotiation academically or hypothetically, but may lack opportunities to practice these skills without discussing their personal intimate lives.
This participatory class offers fun, interactive consent-making exercises to enhance your negotiation skills. These games are adaptable for X or R-rated adult audiences or G-rated settings to teach and empower children of all ages in good boundaries and consent practices.
In this 90-minute session, participants will engage in 2 to 3 games, with additional negotiation methods and strategies shared as time permits. By fostering a creative, collaborative approach to consent and negotiation, this class will equip helping professionals with invaluable tools to support their clients' sexual well-being and pleasure-seeking journeys while addressing the unique challenges faced by professionals in developing these essential skills.

The spectrum of sexual health related behaviors, feelings and issues is vast. We can usually see what’s on the bright/light end but have to really want to see what’s on the dark side. This presentation hopes to invite sexual health experts of all types to consider the value of additional training and education on the dark side—shed some light on it. This presentation will invite participants to acknowledge what they think is on the other side, what they have put there, what you thought was there but maybe isn’t, and in some cases what the law has decided to put there. This may include, but is not limited to, consent violations, the kink that scares “you”, paraphilias, and anything that has the word “underage” in it (for a few examples). Not to sound to cliché, but kind of a Luke Skywalker confronting his fears and seeing himself in the cave kind of vibe.
-

Low sexual desire remains one of the most complex issues that couples and sex therapists treat. Traditional therapeutic interventions fail to give couples the state of erotic transcendence they long to experience. My approach gives clinicians a fresh way of conceptualizing and treating issues around sexual desire and satisfaction. My study was the first to quantitatively examine the relationship between flow state and sexual satisfaction among couples in long-term relationships. Drawing from research across an array of psychological fields such as mindset, curiosity, embodiment, attachment, and positive psychology, I developed a five-factor approach (sensuality, curiosity, adaptability, vulnerability, and attunement) that weaves together flow science with sexuality. My model gives clinicians a new and effective way to help their clients have happier and more meaningful emotional and sexual relationships.
-
This presentation will provide an overview of a group program model with topics including: women’s sexual pleasure, sociocultural influences, anatomy, mindfulness, communication and language, sexual pain, hormone health, sacred sexuality, pelvic floor health, emotional regulation, and yoga. -
To open our hearts to love is to, necessarily, expose ourselves to loss. Despite this reality, one of the least acknowledged aspects of mourning concerns the way life’s losses affect our intimate relationships and sexual expressiveness. Grief counselors are often uncomfortable discussing the ways sex and intimacy are challenged by grief. Conversely, sex therapists may be ill-equipped to help clients navigate loss. This presentation aims to offer an integrated perspective on intimacy and sexuality in the context of grief so that counselors can better support the relational and sexual health of those in mourning.
-
Intersections between queer identities and disordered eating- how individuals without gender affirming care often use disordered eating to change their body as well as the increased stress with sexual minorities and how disordered eating patterns often come into play. All of this intersects with sexuality, intimacy and body image.

One thing I’ve realized as a Sex Therapist, is how often sex loses its playfulness; it can become heavy and problematic. But let’s face it, sex can be kinda funny..and fun! So, let’s elevate humor, laughter, pleasure and play in all of our a/sexy glory. We will talk neuroscience and connection, while engaging in fun experiences you can adapt for yourself and clients. There will also be non-explicit and explicit (language and nudity) media. You will hopefully laugh (though I can’t make any promises). I invite you to bring your curiosity and leave your inner critic(s) at home.
-
Topics such as childhood sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and sex work are highly nuanced experiences that no degree or certificate can fully prepare someone to talk about. Some things are best understood by those who have lived these experiences. This works at odds with our traditional current system of gaining a higher education before being considered fit to discuss these topics and provide health and healing services to victims/survivors. This presentation will discuss how sexual trauma (and other sexual experiences) can be transmuted to help others and ourselves and provide best practices.
-
Shame is the elephant in the room when we talk about sexuality be it in board rooms or bedrooms. We pick it up consciously or unconsciously from infancy, and carry it into old age. Research shows that it is reinforced by all the major institutions in our lives - parents, extended communities, religious organizations, schools and that the impact on our psyches is widespread. I formally started studying sexual shame in 2021 at Columbia University and since then have interviewed 30+ people from around the world on their experiences of it.
-
Sexual trauma can leave lasting scars on an individual's psyche, affecting their perception of intimacy and pleasure. In "The Miseducation of Sex" presentation, we delve into the complexities of navigating pleasure and intimacy after experiencing sexual trauma. This proposal aims to provide a safe and informative space for survivors to explore their relationship with pleasure, shedding light on the misconceptions and societal narratives that often hinder their healing journey.
-
The goal of this workshop is to provide therapists, counselors, and other professionals with the information and skills necessary to discuss sexual health and wellness with families or parents who are resistant to sex education. Touching on several topics related to sexual health and what is considered “within normal limits” during different developmental stages. Areas discussed will include “purity culture,” human development, pornography, masturbation, finding healthy expressions of sexuality, and legal/ethical responsibilities we have as professionals.
-

SHA Evening Events
Thursday Evening:
Wild West Hoedown with MUSICIAN Hayden Lindsey!
(Wear your best western costumes! Whips and Lassos encouraged!)
A Dallas native, Hayden’s musical roots are firmly planted in the fertile ground of outlaw country, Texas country, and folk revival of his home state. Through his songwriting, he weaves heartfelt storylines with a unique sense of humor to create a catalog that is a mix of profundity and profanity.
Hayden took a meandering road from Texas to Sequim, WA, wandering the west for several years before falling in love with the natural beauty of the Olympic Peninsula (and the people ain’t bad so far either!). It was during his travels that he began to truly embrace the troubadour spirit, picking up hitchhikers, swapping stories with strangers in taverns late at night, and chasing down the ghosts of all his cowboy heroes. His travels have infused his writing with a deep appreciation for our differences, as well as the common threads that connect us.
For Hayden, music is about celebrating love and life in the midst of tragedy, heartbreak, and loss. Stories help us make sense of the inevitable pain of being human, and in song we can turn that pain into something beautiful that can be shared.
The alchemy of transforming pain into love is what called Hayden to his “day job” as a mental health therapist (likely delaying his music career by a decade or so!) As a private practitioner specializing in intimate relationships, he enjoys a unique synergy between the connection he works to foster in his office and the joy he hopes to bring on stage. Visit his Website.

Floggers - One flogger or pair of flogger, either is fine. Many of the movements will be done with one in each hand. Make sure it's the right length for you. If you are new to this, go for a lighter weight. If you want a little extra resistance and exercise, use a heavier one.

Do you have extra floggers people might borrow? It would be lovely if you could bring them.
Want a more challenging workout? Wear some extra weights on your body. Try a heavier object to swing........

Raised in a conservative family and church, I grew up in an environment
where sex and sexuality were never discussed. As a result, while I had a
few relationships over the years, none were intimate. It wasn’t until the age of 70 that an unexpected “awakening'“; occurred within me—an inner voice that quietly but firmly suggested it was time to explore this neglected facet of my life. With a mix of curiosity and determination, I began delving into the subject, engaging in extensive research, reading, and videos. I discovered Surrogate Partner Therapy, which provided a safe and supportive space to explore my sexuality and desires. This experience has been nothing short of transformative, opening up a world of wonder, excitement, and pleasure that I had never imagined. My journey is a testament to the idea that it is never too late to explore new aspects of oneself, embrace change, and discover the beauty of what life has to offer at any age.

At this juncture in my career, I am also passionate about mentorship and removing institutional barriers for budding clinicians, in addition to client care.
When not working with clients, I enjoy a wide variety of personal pursuits, including weightlifting, endurance running, thru hiking, and traveling. My partner and I spent three years living the RV life before re-establishing a homebase on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. After hours, you might find me moonlighting (literally!) as a singer/songwriter in one of the many local venues. (I consider songwriting a form of narrative therapy!)

I grew up in Homer, Alaska and completed my educational journey outside of the state, receiving an AS in Psychology and Women's Studies, a BS in Health Psychology from Bastyr University and a Master's of Social Work from University of Central Florida. I am in the process of becoming a licensed sex therapist, and have completed trainings in HAES and TBT-S Level 1 & 2.
Throughout the 20+ years I have worked in the mental health field, I have worked with marginalized populations and clients in many stages of life who struggle with issues including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, disordered eating patterns/eating disorders and other impulse control issues.
I specialize in LGBTQIA2+ folks, whether starting or in the middle / end of their queer/transitioning/identity development journey. I also work to support individuals struggling with identity and relationships, including poly, ethical non-monogamy and kink/fetishes. I am available to write WPATH letters when appropriate, and I am proudly part of the GALAP network. I also specialize in individuals with eating disorders, and frequently attend conferences to stay current on the newest techniques to help individuals find peace with food and their bodies.
I have always had a deep passion for LGBTQ2IA+ equity and equality, fat and sex positive viewpoints and primarily work from a feminist/queer/narrative theory lens. I identify as a queer, gender fluid and polyamorous person, and am always trying to be aware of my power and privilege both in and out of the office. In my spare time, I volunteer on a local board of directors, garden, spend time with my family, and have multiple schemes for building projects brewing. I love to read YA vampire and post-apocalyptic novels, and am an aspiring writer of the genre myself.

My name is Mauricio D. Verduzco, I am first generation from two parents who immigrated from Mexico. My desire to become a mental health professional stems from my own experiences dealing with immigration trauma, religious trauma, anger management, and toxic masculinity. Others helped me when I was in need, I delight in being able to be that person for others.
I spent much of my early career working extensively with children, adolescents, and families navigating the immigration process, the legal system, culture shock, and serious mental illness. As a member of the local mental health authority of Travis County for over 8 years, I supported clients in various settings including clinics, schools, correctional facilities, and other areas in the community.
Through my work, I’ve learned the value of play for clients of all ages and developed a passion for people who feel part of their identity is in conflict with the circumstances around them. Together, we’re able to work toward a place of acceptance and confidence that allows them to thrive in every area of their lives.
Today, I specialize in working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, people struggling with issues related to immigration trauma, people struggling to navigate through the criminal justice system. Professionally I enjoy working with clients who are struggling with Toxic Masculinity and the effects of living in a Patriarchal society. As a member of the Sexual Health Alliance, I enjoy educating others on sexual health and wellness. As a counselor working with families, I have had the pleasure of working with families to challenge unhealthy practices associated with sex education for children and adolescents.

Elliot Justin MD, FACEP, is the CEO and founder of FirmTech, the world’s first sex tech company focused on keeping men firm and fit for a better lifetime of lovemaking and pleasure. Before there is ED, there is erectile fitness. How can men avoid ED, and if they have it, arrest it, and potentially reverse the condition? The company’s FemmeTech division has a similar mission for women. How can women monitor and maximize their sexual health?
With our easy and comfortable wearables, men and women in privacy, at home will be able to assess objectively the impact of diseases, medications, supplements, diet, etc. upon their sexual wellness and pleasure.
Since launching at AUA in 2022, FirmTech has sold over 13k units and won several prestigious prizes. The Tech Ring achieved second place at the 2023 CES/Showstopper event in Health Wellness and Innovation, and the 2023 Most Innovative Sex Toy of the Year at XBIZ. The Performance Ring was runner-up for best male sex toy of the year.
Keenly interested in heightening sexual pleasure and intimacy, Dr. Justin began exploring aphrodisiacs on his first day of medical school in 1975. Unfortunately, none of them worked. More recently, he researched neuromodulation therapy to stimulate erections and ejaculation. He called it “Project O”. The culmination of this study involved testing a pacemaker-like implant to stimulate erections in rams, and eventually on himself.
Dr. Justin and the FirmTech team have developed the Tech Ring and the Performance Ring, which are transformative tools to help men optimize personal “erectile fitness,” and to inspire better erectile and cardiovascular health.
The Tech Ring embeds smart sensors into an advanced effective and safe “cock ring” form. Everyone knows about “morning wood”, but healthy men have three to five erections while they sleep. This number is a leading indicator of a man’s vascular health. Before heart attacks, strokes, and significant diabetes occur, this number will go down. Monitoring these erections will be quite important, especially for men in their 40s and older. When worn during sex, the Tech Ring measures the duration and firmness of erections. Now men, while wearing a cock ring for better sex, can also assess the impact of medications, vascular diseases, recreational drugs, alcohol, supplements, and exercises on their erectile health.
Not surprisingly, Dr. Justin has been a sex toy enthusiast for decades. Pills may put a little more blood into the penis, but it is more important to keep it there. Like many men, he never found a cock ring that didn’t pinch and could be worn for a long session of lovemaking. He was also frustrated that there was always that cringe moment when taking it off after an orgasm. A man with a hard-on will put up with discomfort, but why should they? Cock rings have been made the same way for more than 100 years. Dr. Justin decided that it’s time to fix the cock ring problem by coming up with a fresh easy on/easy off form that increases pleasure, sustains erections, and can be worn comfortably for hours if desired.
After testing its Clitique on 40 women, FirmTech recently launched its FemmeTech line. The goal is commercialization in 2024.
Happily married for 35 years to his artist wife, and the father of three remarkably successful adult children, Elliot and Ann live in Montana with three energetic mares and a flock of chickens. He is a passionate trail rider who sometimes imagines, to his wife’s chagrin, that he’s a centaur.
