HOW TO BECOME A SEX COACH
WHAT IS A SEX COACH?
A Sex Coach, also considered a Sexuality Consultant at times, is a sexuality professional that can advise in trainings, assist in workshops and educational programs, and hold space for individuals and their minor sex-related needs. Sex Coaches and Consultants do not partake in the same intensive academic training that a Sex Thearpist or Sex Educator woud, as they only need to have (or are currently getting) an Associat’es degree.

WHAT DOES A SEX COACH DO?
Sex Coaches are those that provide information, specific assistance, and private or group-discussion on sexual-related issues. A sex coach can provide sexuality consultations, sexuality coaching, intimacy consulting and coaching, trainings, courses and webinars, and retreats and groups. Some of our students or alumni identify as sexological bodyworkers, sex workers, sexuality writers and bloggers, and sexuality educators that want to add sexuality consulting or relational sex coaching to their arsenal. Some of our students coach and consult on sexuality specifically, while others go on to focus on intimacy.
WHO CAN BECOME A SEX COACH?
SHA’s Sexuality Coach and Consultant program is designed for those interested in the sexuality field but may come from less-related backgrounds. Admittance to our sex coach program (and most programs) requires at least an Associate’s degree in, though one can be a current student and still enroll in our program. SHA’s Sex Coach & Consultant Certification prepares coaches and consultants for facilitating difficult conversations and celebrating sexual joy either one-on-one or in a group setting.
HOW IS A SEX COACH DIFFERENT FROM A SEX THERAPIST
The main differerce between a sex therapist and sex coach is the level of education the professional holds. Therapists have steps toward proper licensure that require years of academic training and experience in the field. Therapists are also held to a legal standard equivalent to that of doctors. Coaches, on the other hand, are less restricted in their practices and can come from only obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
IS THERE SEX IN SEX COACHING?
Absolutely not. Just like with therapists and sex therapists, there is no seedy difference between the two in how they interact with clients/patients. In legit sex coaching or therapy sessions, there will be ZERO nudity, touching, or flirtation. Sex coaching is a professional practice and if any of these behaviors are exhibited, please report this “coach.” During your session(s), sexual topics will be discussed, as could your sexual history, but all through the context of your feelings and opinions towards these subjects.
