Internships & Volunteer Opportunities

The Southwest Sexual Health Alliance (SSHA) is accepting applications for internships and volunteer opportunities in 2017 and beyond. Applicants may apply to intern in Austin, Texas as it is where SSHA is based. Internships have flexible start and end dates but we are asking for a 9 month-1 year commitment. Positions are currently not compensated; however, compensation may become available in the future.

SSHA promotes an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to sexuality with the goal of fostering cooperation and dialogue among diverse professionals. Throughout the year, SSHA facilitates communication among sexual health providers through its signature lecture series, Roundtable forums, and educational workshops. These opportunities offer amazing access to the sexuality community as well as nationally known speakers and educators.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong familiarity with progressive sexual health information

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Detail oriented and a self-starter

  • Ability to synthesize and write under a high-energy, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment and independent worker

  • Experience as a writer, reporter, or blogger is recommended

Time and Location

  • SSHA Offices (multiple locations) in Austin, Texas

  • 5-10 hours a week

  • Attend events and monthly team meetings

Open positions

Social Media Intern

We’re looking for a passionate, energetic, and talented social media/marketing intern to help us better engage our online communities.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing of all SSHA events

  • Post at least three (3) times per week on a variety of social media outlets including Facebook and professional networks

  • Posts should include relevant articles/interesting news relevant to the field of sex education

  • Gather knowledge of related organizations and media outlets to include interdisciplinary advertising of events and workshops

Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills
  • Attention to detail

  • A passion for content creation

  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic

  • Experience with of social media marketing on the Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter

  • Recommended that you have an interest in blogging or proficiency in relevant tools, like HootSuite

 

Marketing and Outreach Intern

We’re looking for a self-starter who is enthusiastic about getting to know the community and growing the organization through outreach and unique marketing ideas. Our goal is to promote sexual health education while fostering a working relationship with others in the field through cross-promotion and awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and edit press releases and media advisories

  • Pitch news ideas to bloggers and reporters

  • Seek out and build relationships for sponsorship of events

  • Assist with managing all events

  • Establish and maintain a media/organization contact list

  • Other communications tasks as assigned by SSHA
