The Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) exists to provide accurate, current, and complete information on sexual well being to all people.
The mission of the SHA is to build communities that are collaborative, inclusive, and well informed. We strive to create meaningful educational opportunities.
As most mental health, health, and medical professionals receive little to no sexual health education in graduate school or beyond, the SHA targets programming to these and other professionals who often interact with individuals with sexuality concerns. We promote an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to sexuality with the goal of fostering cooperation and dialogue among diverse professionals.
The range of professionals includes all general therapists and medical/healthcare providers, as well as medical specialists (e.g., OB/GYN, pelvic floor therapists) and all sexual health professionals (e.g., educators, surrogates, bodyworkers, sex coaches). General mental health professionals, nurses, and physicians often are the first point of contact when a person initially presents a sexual issue or problem and therefore we strive to train these groups to be well informed and prepared.
In addition to providing educational opportunities, we strive to provide a space for sexual health professionals to collaborate in a meaningful way. Our intention is to build healthcare communities that provide holistic, integrative services in an effort to bridge the divide between mental health and medical professionals. We believe that to become better providers, we need to become better collaborators.
When our communities are most successful, we are also targeting the general public (‘Sex Nerds’, spouses and partners of practitioners, friends and fans), which brings diverse opinions and conversations to our events, as well as further the spread of high quality, accurate sexual well being information.
Our primary goal is to provide educational opportunities to educate and empower all professionals who might see individuals with sexuality related concerns.
Additionally, our goal is to provide a space for medical and sexual health professionals to collaborate in meaningful ways to improve the sexual health of individuals seeking care.
Our events and programming are intended to build community, spark dialogue and encourage collaboration. We build communities that are well-informed and all inclusive. We’re dedicated to bringing the brightest minds and biggest game changers in sexual health to our communities.
All of our events to be fun, easily accessible and desirable to all types of professionals.
The tagline summarizes the goals of SHA and is what we strive to create. The specific content and events that are “provocative” or “radical” will certainly vary by region and chapter but the goal is to continue to advance the conversation.
